The UK Office of National Statistics (ONS) has issued a statement confirming that the report claiming that anonymous hacker group LulzSec hacked census was hoax.
The ONS issued the statement after an unidentified message, purporting to come from LulzSec, claimed that the hacker group breached the ONS’ computer network security and census data. However, LulzSec was quick to say that it hadn’t launched any cyber attack on ONS.
Census Director Glen Watson said that the census data hack claim was without any foundation.
Speaking on the topic, Watson said, “The claim that hackers got in looks like a hoax and our investigation concluded that there is no sign of any suspicious activity. The alleged hackers have also denied any involvement."
LulzSec has harassed a number of big companies and government agencies over the past few months. It has claimed responsibility for hacking computer networks of Japanese entertainment giant Sony’s PlayStation Network, intelligence agency CIA, publisher PBS, the US Senate, and an affiliate of the FBI.
Meanwhile, British teenager Ryan Cleary, who was taken into custody for his alleged involvement with hacking group LulzSec, is due in court today.
