Sonic the Hedgehog,’ which made his debut on the Sega Genesis on June 23, 1991, emerged as Sega’s most important franchise and the company’s own personal mascot.
As many as seventy million ‘Sonic the Hedgehog’ video games have so far been sold around the globe since the start of the series twenty years back.
In 1993, Sonic made his real-world appearance at Macy's Thanksgiving Day in New York City. He was the first video game character who had a balloon at the annual parade.
Sonic never ages, despite the fact that its official age is 15 years.
The success is expected to continue with the recent announcement of the upcoming Sonic Generations for Microsoft’s Xbox 360 and Sony’s PlayStation 3 games consoles. Sonic Generations for Xbox 360 and PS3 is due for December 31.
The bundle, Sonic Generations, according to the EU PlayStation blog, will include the original Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic 2, Sonic Adventure, Sonic 4: Episode 1, plus a theme from the world of Sonic 4.
