Team Fortress 2, which has recently been made available as a free-to-play game, has overtaken Counter Strike to become the most played game on Steam.
According to figures gathered from the website of Steam, Team Fortress 2 has more than 96,675 players online, and the current peak count is nearing 98,000. On the other hand, Counter Strike has 58,245 online players, with the peak count being 65,420.
Team Fortress 2's player count is still on the increase as many Counter Strike players are quitting the game to enjoy free-to-play Team Fortress 2.
Earlier, before Team Fortress 2 game was free-to-play, it was running behind Counter Strike, counter Strike Source, Call of Duty Black Ops and Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2.
In an interview with British Magazine Develop, Valve’s Robin Walker said that that had been mulling over the idea of making Team Fortress 2 free to play ever since the Mann-conomy update.
Speaking on the topic, Mr. Walker explained, “With a free-to-play model, Team Fortress 2 will likely get many more players.”
Valve also explained that anybody who has downloaded Team Fortress 2 for free and hasn’t made a purchase in the in-game Mann Co. store has a free account.
