Google’s recently announced Google+, which has been designed to provide the Internet search giant with the much-needed share in the flourishing field of social networking, has a long way to go.
Google+, which is currently available only to a small number of people, integrates the Google maps and images, and allows users to share comments, messages, upload pictures.
But, some analysts believe that Google’s new social networking site offers the same features already available at Facebook, except for the video chat function. Moreover, there is no dearth of social network on the internet. Facebook and Twitter are already well-established social networks.
The world’s most popular social networking platform, Facebook, has more than half a billion users worldwide, and various sources claiming that the number will soon hit 750 million.
Speaking on Google’s chance to win in the social networking sphere, analyst Dan Olds, of the Gabriel Consulting Group, said, “It's going to be very difficult and they're going to need some luck. Facebook is massive and very well established.”
But, it must be noted here that MySpace was the top dog in the social networking sphere at a time when Facebook was just emerging. Facebook gradually allured people away from MySpace and emerged as the dominant player in the market. On the other hand, MySpace, which was purchased by News Corp. $580 million in 2005, has recently been sold to Specific Media for merely $35 million.
