Dominique Strauss-Kahn Released From House Arrest on FridayThe Former Head of the International Monetary Fund, Dominique Strauss-Kahn, was released from house arrest on Friday as the case against him moved closer to dismissal. Dominique Strauss-Kahn was accused of sexually assaulting a female hotel housekeeper and trying to rape her in May.

Initially, the victim said that she had been attacked by Mr. Strauss-Kahn and she waited in a hallway until he left the room but later she told the prosecutors that she had lied about what happened after the encounter on the 28th floor of the hotel.

Prosecutors have disclosed that the woman had admitted lying in her application for asylum from Guinea. The woman also said in a letter that she had misrepresented her income to qualify for her housing, and that she had declared a friend’s child as a dependent on tax returns in addition to her own daughter to increase her tax refund.

Before his arrest in the sexual assault case, Mr. Strauss-Kahn, 62, was considered a strong contender for the French presidency. Following his arrest, he resigned from his position as MD of the International Monetary Fund.
