Sony Ericsson aims to become No 1 Android-based handsets’ supplier in Asia-Pacific

Sony-EricssonIn order to establish itself as the leading supplier of Android OS-based mobile phones in Asia-Pacific markets, Sony Ericsson has announced two new smart phones along with a new feature phone.

The electronics giant introduced a total of three handsets viz. the Xperia Ray, the Xperia Active and the Sony Ericsson txt, which will be available in the third quarter of 2011.

Announcing the new handsets, Matthew Lang, Sony Ericsson's corporate VP and chief of Asia-Pacific, said that the company desired to become the Number 1 supplier of mobile phones based on Android OS, and the company saw a great opportunity for growth in Asia-Pacific region.

Speaking on the topic, Mr. Lang said, “We have great expectations for active markets such as Australia, New Zealand, Indonesia and India. We need to be No 1 in Android-based mobile phones to be the market leader.”

The Xperia Ray runs on Android 2.3, and features a slim 9.4mm form factor with a high-quality aluminium body, a 3.3-inch display, an 8.1MP photo snapper, a 1 GHz processor, Reality Display with a Mobile Bravia engine and a Sony Exmor R CMOS sensor.

Another smartphone, the Xperia Active also runs Android 2.3, but it has a compact design combined with hardware specs such as a 3-inch screen, a 1 GHz processor and a 5MP photo snapper. In addition, it is dust proof and water resistant.

Mr. Lang also said announced that Sony Ericsson would launch a new, unique and different tablet in the market sometime in future.
