Arnold Urges the US to Tackle Child Hunger

Arnold Urges the US to Tackle Child HungerThe Chief Executive of Irish aid agency, Tom Arnold, has urged the US to provide support and deal with the problem of child hunger. He has written an open letter to the Secretary Of State, Hillary Clinton, calling her to help eradicate childhood under-nutrition.

He said that approximately 3.5 million children die from inadequate nutrition and related causes every year and there is an urgent need to deal with the problem. He also said, "The number of dead, and permanently-damaged, children resulting from basic under nutrition in the world's poorest countries is unacceptable, and avoidable".

He said that the number of people suffering from hunger in the world is growing and is expected to cross one billion this year.

He further added that Ireland is committed to fight against hunger because it's something that is unacceptable for the nation. Chronic hunger, or under-nutrition, contributes to the deaths of three million children under five each year. These kids could be saved if they will be provided with food and other products which can fulfill their nutritional needs.

Previous studies have shown that under-nutrition during the 1,000 days, from pregnancy to age two, results in irreversible physical and mental stunting in one of three children worldwide.
