Horizons Regional Council has released its draft regional public transport plan and is looking forward for feedback from the community. The 10 year transport plan specifies the public transport services that Horizons are proposing as well as nearly 40 other policies related to fares, funding and accessibility.
The council is seeking feedback from the public and is urging them to share their thoughts and opinions on the plan. Horizons Regional Council has revealed that the number of people carried by public transport in the region has gradually increased in the last decade. Latest figures have revealed that passenger numbers on services supported by Horizons increased 119% in the last 10 years.
Chairman of the Horizons Passenger Transport Committee, Vern Chettleburgh, said, “We want to hear what people think about the proposed plan for the next 10 years, how well it will support their way of living and how we can encourage them to keep using these services”.
He further added that the Horizons have been working closely with city councils, district councils and community groups to ensure the region's transport needs are identified and met.
