If one or both the partners are into heavy drinking then they are more likely to be aggressive, claims a study by the researchers of the University of Otago.
The study worked on the difference in the aggression level between the two partners. The female to male aggression was more frequent than the male to female. It came out to be 15% in females and 12% in males. The females are more prone to be aggressive than their male partners, the study notified.
The people who reported that they take five or more drinks at a time have the capacity of being aggressive by twofold and can be a victim of partners aggression by threefold, stated the study.
Professor Connor, Author of the study said that the growth in the aggression level of the people is due to the heavy intake of alcohol. To avoid the domestic violence cases something has to be done. Also, an increase has been reported in the cases of females becoming violent, Connor said.
"Making changes to the price, availability and promotion of alcohol to reduce the amount of heavy drinking across the whole population will be a good start to reducing the frequency and severity of physical aggression in New Zealand homes", he said.
