The Council of Auckland will be establishing a new Heritage Advisory Panel that will offer free advice to the decision makers of the council on the heritage matters.
Councillor Sandra Coney, Chairman of Auckland Council's Parks, Recreation and Heritage Forum will be the chairman of this panel.
The panel will aim at the security of built heritage and funding of $10million will be required, for the purchasing of heritage buildings for redevelopment and resale.
"The panel will raise the profile of heritage in Auckland. It will also bring fresh eyes to heritage management in the council by highlighting heritage issues, advising on heritage policy and working with the successful Urban Design Panel", Coney stated.
She notified that this panel will consist of community representatives and also the experts from all over the region, as they will assist the decision makers.
Also, the Council is dealing with the issue of city rail link, as it has voted to provide $2 million funding for the development of the project. The money will be given to Auckland Transport, as the organization comes under Council only.
The project is expected to be completed within a two year span and may cost around $270 million to the council for acquiring the land for the project.
