Thousands of People Undiagnosed with Dementia: Alzheimer’s Society

Alzheimer’s SocietyA leading health charity, Alzheimer’s Society has estimated that thousands of people across Kent are not diagnosed with dementia. The figures have revealed that approximately 140,000 people in the county do not receive the necessary diagnosis of dementia.

The Alzheimer’s Society of B. C. has also announced to host its family caregiver series on July 9 and 16. People would be required to register themselves for the series first by paying a fee of $3, which will also include lunch.

During these series, the participant can learn different effective ways to care for an individual with Alzheimer's disease or a related dementia.

Dorothy Leclair, the Regional Support and Education Coordinator for the non-profit Alzheimer Society of B. C, said that the commitment of caregivers can improve the condition of patients and help them in overcoming their illness.

He also said, “It's very important for caregivers to take care of themselves. They need to eat well, exercise and get enough rest so they can remain healthy”.

He has advised the caregivers to understand Alzheimer's disease and related dementias and use effective and creative ways of communicating with the patients.
