US mobile phone carrier Verizon accounts for around a third of the Apple iPhone 4 smartphones, a new study revealed.
According to figures compiled by research firm Localytics, 32.3 per cent of the iPhone 4 smartphones are running on the airwaves of Verizon as of July 1.
The figure is impressive as Verizon started selling the fourth generation of the iPhone nearly eight-month after its availability via AT&T.
Commenting on the findings, Localytics wrote in a blog post, "Despite AT&Ts nearly eight-month head start, Verizon has managed to capture nearly a third of the U. S. iPhone 4 market.”
Localytics added that the Verizon’s iPhone share increase each month, going from a 20 per cent in February to a 32.3 per cent in July. The increase in Verizon’s iPhone share could be attributed to the carrier's offering of all-you-can-eat data plan, but the carrier recently put an end to the unlimited data plans for new customers.
It may be noted here that the iPhone is currently available only via AT&T and Verizon in the US.
