On Friday, it was reported that Janet Johnson gave birth to a baby boy who weighs around 16-pound, which is about twice the weight of a newborn baby.
She gave the birth to the child at Good Shepherd Hospital in Longview. It was reported that Baby JaMichael was the heaviest and largest baby to be born in the Lone Star State.
Dr. John Kirk, Johnson's obstetrician reported that he was expecting the baby to weigh around 12 or 13 pounds but it was surprise to see the weight of the newborn baby.
He said: "He was much larger than expected. JaMichael was the biggest baby he had ever delivered. Both his mother and father are large people, and she was diagnosed with gestational diabetes, which contributed to the baby's size."
He added that they have to wait for some time that the infant has not developed his lungs properly but the operation was done a week earlier as decided by the doctors.
A Professor and Chairman of Obstetrics and Gynecology at University of California at Irvine, Dr. Manuel Porto has claimed that when the infants of the diabetic mother are large in size then the organs of the baby take time to develop. He concluded that an early delivery could lead to the respiratory problems for the baby.
