With a sincere intention to expand its coverage by moving beyond the chic smartphones, Facebook has rolled out a mobile app that will bring the world’s most popular social network to so-called ‘feature phones’.
The new “Facebook for Every Phone” app is a Java-based app that will open up the social networking platform to more than 2,500 different, less sophisticated phones.
The new app will offer a fast as well as comprehensive Facebook experience to the users of feature phones, despite that fact that they have considerably less processing power than smartphones such as Apple’s iPhone.
The “Facebook for Every Phone” app includes popular features like that of the News Feed, Inbox and Photos. Users will also be able to upload photos and find friends from their handsets’ contacts.
Announcing the new move, Facebook Mobile site stated, “At Facebook, we work to ensure people around the world have a great Facebook experience no matter where they are or how they access our site.”
Facebook’s move illustrates its attempts to access users in the developing countries as its coverage is reaching saturation point in developed nations.
The “Facebook for Every Phone” app can be downloaded now via m. facebook. com, or straight from d. facebook. com/install as well as from app stores.
