Internet search giant Google is still the most popular search engine in the UK, a study conducted by online monitoring and research outfit Experian Hitwise revealed.
According to figures released by Hitwise, more than 92 per cent of the overall internet searches were done using Google in June this year. It is also the Google’s best performance in the UK market since the beginning of this year.
In May, Google’s stake in the UK Internet search market was recorded at around 90.5 per cent.
Speaking on the findings, Experian Hitwise’s research director Robin Goad said, “Google has certainly been dominant in search for the last ten years but even by Google’s high standards, to capture 92% of the UK search market is quite an achievement.”
Figures also showed that Google’s biggest rival search engine Yahoo’s stake in the UK search market slipped by around 0.11 per cent, bringing it down from 3.08 per cent in May to 2.96 per cent in June.
Microsoft’s share in the UK market also slipped around 1.38 per cent in the month of June since May 2011.
Apart from Google, Ask was the only search engine that enjoyed an increase in its share in UK search market from May to June. Ask’s market share climbed from 1.40 per cent in May to settle at 1.43 per cent in June.
