Virgin Media unveils Android-based Tivo appBritish cable operator Virgin Media has unveiled a new Android app for its TiVo-based TV-on-demand service to allow smartphone users to set programs to record from their mobile devices.

The new app, called Virgin Media TV Guide, will be of great help to fans of TiVo service as it will allow them to record TV shows of their choice virtually from anywhere, anytime. Users of the new app will also be able to get detailed information regarding upcoming TV shows, and to send links to friends and family members.

Speaking on the topic, Virgin Media’s commercial TV & online executive director Alex Green said, “We think Virgin Media's Tivo service is the best way to watch TV and our new mobile app enhances that experience by ensuring you'll never miss recording a programme whilst out and about.”

TiVo, which was launched in 2010, offers not only live and catch-up TV services but also web-based and on-demand services.

The app can be downloaded for free via the Android Marketplace. Virgin Media confirmed that the app would also be launched for the iPhone via the App Store.

Virgin Media recently launched its new advertising campaign, staring Hustle actor Marc Warren, in order to prop up its new TiVo-powered TV product.
