Council Discards the Move to Ban Smoking On the Streets of Auckland

Ban SmokingThe council has for now rejected the budge which is aimed at banning smoking on the streets of Auckland. The proposal that would have banned smoking from Auckland’s street and barred the smokers from the employment at the city's largest District Health Board has been stubbed for now.

The Chair of the Council Community Safety Forum, George Wood, may have asked the council to look into whether it was possible to stop people smoking in public areas of the central city, but not enough support was gathered for the positive move with majority of officials to have gone against the passage of the recommendation that aims to ban smoking on the streets of Auckland.

The majority of councilors during the meeting were seen not to have extended the sufficient support for this noble cause that represents the positive move. Majority of councilors during the meeting said that it is impossible to enforce the smoke free areas in the city unless there is legitimate law for it.

Councilor Cameron Brewer has even said that banning smoking on the streets of Auckland would mean to make people run out the vicinity of the central city, as if they are lepers. The council may have now rejected the implementation of the proposal that would have made things better for the city in terms of healthy living inside the city, but in oppose to it the Auckland District Health Board is considering refusing to hire smokers for now.
