According to reports, a new study has revealed that a chemical in many beauty products can ruin the body's hormones and thyroid function, as daily use of the products has resulted to weight gain in children and adults.
Also, it was discovered that "chemical calories” in beauty products, like; shampoo, body lotions and soap can affect adversely, the body’s natural weight control system.
Doctors at the Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York, state that phthalates, chemical ingredients in 70% of cosmetics as well as lots of household cleaning products, account for disrupting the body's natural ‘weight control system and a delicate balance of hormones’.
The researchers carried out the study on girls living in the inner city area of East Harlem, by measuring their exposure to phthalates and examining their urine.
Hence, the heaviest girls had the highest levels of phthalates in their urine, as Professor Philip Landrigan, a pediatrician and the study author, said: “It goes up as the children get heavier, but it's most evident in the heaviest kids and another substance, Bisphenol-A, also present in containers and bottles, has been found to provide chemical calories".
Moreover, it’s reported that the a little disruption to hormone levels, is detrimental for anyone attempting to lose weight.
