Responding to rider feedback and a series of crashes in the recent events, Bridgestone has proposed changes to the tyre allocations for the MotoGP World Championship. Bridgestone also announced that it would increase the number of tyres and compounds at the MotoGP field.
The announcement has been made following complaints from riders at Grand Prix Safety Commission meetings. Jorge Lorenzo, Valentino Rossi and Casey Stoner said they would like an alteration to the tyre rules permitting a softer rear option to stop cold-tyre higsides on the hard compound rears, which are hard to get up to temperature.
Softer rear slicks featuring Bridgestone’s additional soft compound rubber have been chosen for the upcoming US Grand Prix at Laguna Seca.
Starting the Czech Republic Grand Prix, riders will be able to choose a greater number of the compound option as Bridgestone will offer every rider with an increased number of front slick tyres, three front slick tyre compound options, along with revise rear slick tyre allocation.
Speaking on the topic, Hirohide Hamashima from Bridgestone said, "The riders have agreed with our proposal so I am confident that the changes will provide them with what they've been asking for in terms of a greater number of softer specification tyres each weekend.”
Earlier, only two compound options of front & rear slicks and eight front & ten rear slick tyres were permitted per rider per weekend.
