It will not take a very long time for flying cars to appear in the UK skies as more than 20 Britons have signed up for a flying car, known as the Terrafugia Transition, which has already gained approval in the United States.
The Terrafugia Transition looks like a conventional car, and its wings span 28 feet & 6inches, when unfolded. On road, the vehicle consumes 35mpg of fuel, with a top speed of 65mph. In the sky, it has a top speed of 115mph and consumes 5 gallons of fuel per hour.
The revolutionary vehicle transforms from a car into a plane just at the touch of a button. Furthermore, it can be flown after a basic training of merely 20 hours.
Speaking on the car-cum-plane vehicle, Britain's Civil Aviation Authority said, "The bulk of the work has already been done in the US. Safety standards are very similar between there and Europe."
According to a spokesperson for the Civil Aviation Authority, anybody using the Terrafugia Transition will have to have both a driving licence as well as pilots licence, said a spokesman for the Civil Aviation Authority.
The Terrafugia Transition will become available in the UK in around two years time, with a price tag of around £150,000.
Meanwhile, the European Union is investing a sum of £4.2 million to produce a Personal Arial Vehicle, called myCopter.
