Broadband provider Virgin Media announced that its 100Mb/s broadband service has become available in 6.5 million households and businesses in 160 areas across the UK, equal to 25 per cent of all households in the country.
Virgin Media’s ultra-fast broadband service has taken the country by storm since it was launched in October last year.
According to the broadband firm’s claims, the 100mb/s service consumes just five seconds to download a whole music album, around 30 seconds to download a TV show, and around seven minutes to download a high-definition movie. Executive director Jon James, of broadband at Virgin Media, said that they had constantly led the greatest developments in broadband in the country and that they would continue to develop greater broadband technologies. Speaking on the topic, Mr. James said, “But we're not stopping there - we continue to develop broadband technology with trials for 200Mbps taking place across the country and we have deployed a cutting-edge 1.5Gbps cable broadband trial in East London."
Mr. James expects that their 100mb/s service would be able to cover as many as 12.7 million households by the mid of next year.
Virgin Media’s 100Mb/s broadband service costs around £35 with a phone line bundle, or £45 a month on its own.
