As has been shared by the Acting Premier Kim Hames in a recent statement, if required, he would order Verve to go ahead and relax the conditions of its contract with miner Griffin Coal.
The statement has come after Verve send out a warning to Griffin's management that if coal is not delivered well in time, it will not get paid. As shared by a Verve spokesperson, Griffin has been defaulting on its contract for over a year now, by failing to provide quantity and quality of coal that has been required under the agreed contract.
As per terms of the Verve-Griffin contract, the miner is required to establish that the coal delivered is up-to standard, but the firm's administrators, KordaMentha, have asserted that all the funds that go into providing quality would be better spent taking care of other issues.
Dr. Hames has now said that there are no issues with the quality of the coal provided and Verve should be prepared to relax the conditions mentioned in the contract.
Also, he stressed that it does not matter if it is in Verve's commercial interest or not, the company must continue to buy coal from Griffin.
"We have made it clear that those conditions can be waived in order to make this a meaningful offer that will, in effect, save those jobs for those working for Griffin Coal", he said.
