The Develop Industry Excellence Awards event in Brighton remained dominated by independent studios, showing that the studios free of publisher control are performing well.
Mojang Specifications, the studio behind Minecraft, bagged three awards- for Micro Studio, New Download IP and New Studio. Mojang’s Markus Persson and his colleague Daniel Kaplan were present to collect the awards.
Playdead took home a Visual Arts award for Limbo, which recently hit Sony’s PlayStation Network.
Audio Accomplishment award was given to developer Somethin' Else fro its audio-based iPhone survival horror title Papa Sangre; while Business Development award was bagged by Moshi Monsters developer Mind Candy.
Angry Birds’ developer Rovio grabbed the Handheld Developer award as well as the top Grand Prix prize.
Valve, Ninja Theory's Enslaved and Kinect bagged Publishing Hero, New IP and Technical Innovation awards, respectively.
Ian Livingstone, the man behind games like Fighting Fantasy, bagged the Developer Legend award for his several contributions to the games industry.
