Researchers Link Height to Ten Deadly Cancers

Researchers Link Height to Ten Deadly CancersIn a recent study, it has been found that taller women are at greater risk of developing 10 various types of cancers. The study was conducted by the researchers of Oxford University. It has been reported that for the study the researchers examined about a millions of women.

The researchers have linked ten type of cancers including colon, rectal, malignant melanoma, breast, endometrial (uterus), ovarian, kidney, lymphoma, non-Hodgkin lymphoma and leukaemia with height. They are of the opinion that women with the height of over 5ft 9inch had 37% higher chances of developing tumor.

The same has been found in the case of men. To procure the effectiveness of height in men, the researchers combined 10 other research studies and found that the height of men and women can determine the risk of developing the cancer.

While concluding the study, the lead researcher said, “Obviously height itself cannot affect cancer, but it may be a marker for something else”. Being taller doesn’t mean that one has cancer but it does mean that the taller persons are at greater risk of developing cancer. Few years ago it was found that the taller people had lesser risk of having heart attack.

The researchers have urged people not to be alarmed with the findings. However, steps should be taken to keep one’s body healthy as healthy body is the best preventive for any illness. They further said that women should control their obesity as obesity has been linked to breast cancer by many studies.
