Facebook founder & CEO Mark Zuckerberg has topped The Guardian's list of the 100 top media personalities, beating business tycoons like Rupert Murdoch and Apple chief Steve Jobs.
Topping the Guardian's annual “Media 100” list, which ranks the most powerful personalities in UK media, shows the unstoppable success of the world’s most popular social networking site- Facebook, which only four years back ranked 100 on the list.
In 2010, Zuckerberg achieved the seventh spot on the list. He was also named as Time's Person of the Year for 2010.
The Guardian announced that Zuckerberg would remain the most influential figure in the field of technology; however, it warned that the competitive threat from the rise of new rivals like Google+ made Facebook's position precarious.
The second spot in the Guardian's annual “Media 100” list was given to Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey for his role behind the success of Twitter and the launch of the mobile payment service Square.
Google's chief executive Larry Page was given the third position on the list, thanks mainly to the success of Android. The launch of new social network, called Google+, is expected to help him secure an even higher rank next year.
Media tycoon Rupert Murdoch slipped from fourth place to sixth place as the phone hacking scandal is swallowing up his media empire.
