Google+ is far from leadership position: Hitwise

HitwiseGoogle+, Internet search giant Google’s new social networking platform, has been enjoying an increase in the number of unique users since its launch in late June, but it is still a minor player.

According to figures released by Hitwise, Google+ was at the 42nd spot in the list of social networking sites and at the 638th spot in the list of all sites in the U. S. in terms of visits during the week ended 16th of July.

However, that was a big jump from the previous week ending 9th of July, when Google+ ranked 2,404th in the list of all sites in the U. S.

Of the world's 20 million Google+ visitors, 2.8 million are from India, which makes India the second largest group of Google+ visitors, after the U. S. that has 5.3 million cumulative unique Google+ visitors.

Google’s new social network has created a mostly positive buzz among users, which is clear from the strong demand for invitations.

However, Google+ is still far from leadership position. Currently, Facebook is the dominant player in the field of social networking, with more than 750 million users worldwide.
