A superfluous red telephone box was turned into an alehouse by the people of Shepreth to enter its name into the Guinness World Records as a smallest pub. However, the pub was unsuccessful in matching the guidelines of the world record.
According to the record keepers, The Dog and Bone was opened in Shepreth, Cambridgeshire, it was a 3x3ft ex-phone box but was not licensed and was not opened for the regular hours, so its entry was barred.
The transferring of the phone box into pub was a part of campaign to keep village pub The Plough alive. They wanted that the South Cambridgeshire District Council should make efforts to restore the Plough Pub.
Richard Handford, who has been assisting to save the Plough campaign, stated that they were hoping that the red telephone alehouse box would become the world’s smallest pub. "It's a bitter blow to discover that we won't be record breakers. Pity The Plough's not open - we could drown our sorrows", he said.
Meanwhile, the Whisky Bar in Graubunden, Switzerland, which has a floor area of 91.82 feet, secures its position to be considered as the smallest whiskey bar of the world.
