Angry Birds maker, Rovio, has been slapped with a patent infringement suit by Texas-based Lodsys, which is also involved in lawsuits against several tech giants like Apple and HP.
The patents in questions involve how players of Rovio’s popular Angry Birds game purchase new levels inside the game.
According to the suit, filed with the US District Court for the Eastern District of Texas, Angry Birds for Apple’s iOS and Google’s Android have violated at least one of the patents owned by Lodsys.
Angry Birds was first launched on Apple’s iOS in 2009, and then gradually was expanded to other platforms such as Android and Windows 7. It is perhaps the most popular game, with more than 1 million downloads everyday. Rovio recently announced that Angry Birds app had been downloaded more than 300 million times.
Apart from Rovio, the suit also targeted Electronic Arts, Square Enix, Atari and Take-Two Interactive.
Finnish games developer Rovio has so far not responded to request for comment on the suit.
