Businesses are receiving download speeds of 1.5Gbps and upload speeds of 150Mbps. According to Virgin’s claims, the 1.5Gbps broadband is 240 times faster than the national average and 15 times faster than the cable company’s own fastest commercial service.

The trial uses the company’s same infrastructure & technology that is being used to provide residential customers with broadband of up to 100Mbps, which has already been rolled out to as many as 6.5 million homes across the country.

Speaking on the topic, Jon James from Virgin Media said, “At speeds of up to 1.5Gb, Virgin Media is delivering some of the fastest broadband in the world.

James said that they wanted to realize the full potential of the company’s unique fibre optic network, and that their massive investments helped them in anticipating and leading the way to meet increasing demand for bandwidth as future services and applications come online.

Communications Minister Ed Vaizey praised the ultra-fast broadband service, saying it would attract new businesses and entrepreneurs to the area.
