No Link Between Mobile Phones and Brain Tumors Among Children: Study

StudyA new study published in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute has claimed that there has been no link between the mobile phones and brain tumors among children.

The researchers of the study examined 352 kids with brain cancer and compared them with 646 kids who were healthy on the basis of their cell phone usage.

The children were grouped according to the usage of the cell phones and their results were analyzed accordingly. The researchers concluded that mobile phones do not contribute to the risk of brain cancer in children under-17.

Martin Roosli, lead author of the study and an Epidemiologist at the Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute in Basel stated, that the research "shows that a large and immediate risk of cellphones causing brain tumors in children can be excluded".

Also, last year a 13-country study of adults revealed that brain-cancer risk does not increase with the increase in the usage of cellphones. The cellphone users and non-users were at same amount of risk.

However, this recent children’s study has a few limitations as the subjects had been using their phones for just about four years, which may not be long enough to determine the cancer risk in them.
