The Chairman of the Senate Health Committee, Galeai Tu’ufuli, has something very important to discuss with Prime Minister Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegaoi in his next week’s meet with him in Apia.
The main agenda during their meet would be to discuss the LBJ hospital’s poor condition, which desperately needs doctors, especially specialized physicians.
He would ask for at least three doctors, who would be placed at the two main units of Pago- Pago Hospital. The bone of contention for LBJ hospital is their low pay scale in the territory, in comparison to the high salaries being offered in the U. S.
He said that process has already being initiated, when he contacted with Tuilaepa’s office, regarding the LBJ hospital of the dire need for physicians. He said that he had contacted Mr. PM’s office, only when he got consent from LBJ authorities, to recruit the staff. Tu’ufuli is waiting to get the approval from Tuilaepa, and once he gets that, he would discuss the matter with the hospital board of Director and management, to finalize the salaries and home allowance.
An American Samoa senator said, “These are just some of the things that American Samoa can work together with its neighboring brothers in Samoa”.
