Software developer Adobe Systems has newly released the public preview of its open-standards animation designer, called Edge, which aims to work alongside the company’s Flash software.
The Adobe Edge makes use of HTML5, JavaScript and CSS3, to allow developers to perform the same tasks they can perform with the help of long standing Flash.
Creative solutions architect John Cole at Adobe said that they expected Flash to co-exist with HTML5 in the long run.
Adobe’s Flash Players has been in use for years for doing fancy things on the Web. Flash Player is a browser plug-in that provides its users with an ability to stream videos, play animated games and all that.
But, tech giants like Apple ditched Adobe’s Flash software, citing security reasons and claiming that it consumes much power. Tech companies, including Opera, Mozilla, Google, Apple, Google and Microsoft, gradually started advancing towards to Web standards, mainly HTML, CSS and JavaScript.
HTML5 and other new Web standards allow users to perform same tasks on new smartphones and other mobile devices that were earlier being performed using Flash.
Adobe is making sincere efforts to keep Flash relevant for three major areas, viz. gaming, business applications and advanced online video; and the emergence Edge will help it gain its lost market share.
