NHS in deprived areas 'worse off under Tories'

NHSThe Labour party has recently claimed that there is data to which proves that the Conservative-led Government is moving money from the deprived North areas to the wealthier South regions --- a fact that will see the deprived parts of England lose out to the wealthier regions under the radical reforms pertaining to health spending!

According to a document produced by Public Health Manchester for Parliament's cross-party Health Select Committee, changes to NHS funding formulas will lead to a cut in funding, in order to deal with entrenched health inequalities for areas with unhealthy populations, like the areas with low life expectancy or above-average levels of disease.

Highlighting that the Labour Government's policy of giving poor areas extra cash to tackle health inequalities is practically being watered down by the present Government, the document shed light on NHS primary care trusts
(PCTs) in areas including Manchester, Liverpool and County Durham – all of which will witness funding cuts running into millions, while those in Surrey and Hertforshire will see increases in funding.

Claiming that NHS in deprived areas is 'worse off under Tories', the document said that he change in health spending “could be interpreted as a reduction in the priority of tackling health inequalities and could be seen as contradicting the aspirations described in the recent White Papers, particularly in view of currently worsening health inequalities.”

Meanwhile, these claims have been challenged by the Government challenged as "nonsense", with Health Secretary Andrew Lansley having reportedly stated that the NHS budget was being increased “in all areas”!
