BMW recently provided a glimpse of its future electric cars. The BMW i3 Concept and the BMW i8 Concept are due on Germany roads in 2013 and 2014 respectively.
The four-seat BMW i3 is engineered to be an electric-only car, and go from zero to 100 km in just 8 seconds. It has a driving range of 125 km. It may be noted here that the manufacturer's electric Mini is just a conversion of the gas powered car.
The displayed i3 had no provision for a gas engine, but the automaker could make it available when the car goes on sale in 2013. The displayed i3 had an electric motor is in the front, batteries under its floor and the trunk in its rear.
BMW's another future electric car, the i8, is a powerful plug-in hybrid that looks very beautiful and accelerates quickly. It has an electric motor on the front axle, and a three-cylinder engine on the rear.
The i8 can sprint from zero to 60 km in merely 4.6 seconds, and has a top speed of 225kmph.
