Cargill Recalls Its 36 Million Pound Ground Meat Due To SalmonellaThe food giant, Cargill, has suspended the production of ground turkey until the source of drug-resistant salmonella gets confirmed.

The Agriculture Department publicized that Cargill has also recalled its 36 million pounds of ground turkey, which is linked to more than 70 salmonella illnesses in 26 states, including a death in California, from March 1 to August 1.

The Minnesota-based firm said that they have recalled the turkey from their Springdale, Arkansas plant, due to their own investigation, ands also due to the information released from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and from an ongoing US Department of Agriculture investigation, into the outbreak.

Salmonella infection symptoms, are similar to that of food poisoning illness, and could cause diarrhea, fever and abdominal cramps, but for elderly people having week immune system, it could be a serious problem.

Owing to the outbreak of the superbug, 50 million Americans got sick and 3,000 people have lost their lives, and to recover from the infection, Health officials have asked people to take preventive measures, like to wash hands properly, cook food thoroughly, and to avoid cross-contamination, in order to reduce the prospect of contamination.
