In an evident move aimed chiefly at enticing PlayStation3 (PS3) owners to download games with free bonus DLC goodies, Sony has recently announced PlayStation Network Play (PSN PLAY) - a rival downloadable games promotion to Microsoft’s Xbox LIVE ‘Summer of Arcade’!

The four-week PLAY promotion will give the PS3 users the opportunity to buy four $14.99 games --- Street Fighter III Third Strike Online Edition; The Baconing; BloodRayne: Betrayal; and Renegade Ops.

According to the details shared by Sony, the PLAY promotion will begin on August 24 with Street Fighter III Third Strike Online Edition; to be followed by the availability the third DeathSpank title - The Baconing – on August 31; and BloodRayne: Betrayal and Renegade Ops on September 7 and September 14 respectively.

Going by the Sony announcement, preorders for PLAY commence from August 9; and Plus members will receive an additional automatic 20 percent discount. PS3 users who pre-order all four titles will receive a complementary PlayStation desktop theme.

In addition, those who actually end up buying all the four PLAY promotional games before September 20 will receive a code for a bonus gift - Payday: The Heist, which is scheduled to launch on October 5 and has otherwise been priced at $19.99 as a standalone co-op shooting game.
