The Red Cross is reported to be launching two new grants for victims of the Christchurch earthquake, as the first offers $250 to every child forced to move from home and school after the quake on the 22nd of February, while the second grant was $500, given to households that could not flush the toilet for 90 days or more.
Sir John Hansen, Chair of the Red Cross 2011 Earthquake Commission, stated: “These grants reflect that a continued loss of services and upheaval has put significant strains on people's resources and capabilities. These grants recognize the efforts made by households to resume and rebuild their lives while dealing with these adversities".
Also, the $250 grant given to every child was paid to the primary caregiver registered at the new school of children, who had to change their home and school, before the 1st of April, as well as remain in the new home and school as at the 1st of August 2011.
Moreover, the Red Cross is said to have raised $105 million, which has majorly been used to payout bereavement grants, and the form as well as criteria for the new grants will be made available on the 11th of August, as it closes on the 9th September.
