New Way of Killing Cancers

New Way of Killing CancersRecently, a cancer research was done by scientists at the University of Pennsylvania, in which they discovered a potential breakthrough by genetically analyzing the T cells of a human body. These T cells are basically a type of white blood cell that are perfect to attack cancer cells in those advanced cases of a common type of leukemia.

According to the researchers, till now they have given this dose of designer T cells to three patients and two out of them have remained cancer-free for more than a year.

As told by other experts, such an achievement is important because this way, just a modification of T cells can kill a range of cancers. Whether it is breast, blood or colon cancer; now all could be treated with the help of this procedure.

As told by Dr. Lee M. Nadler, who is the dean for clinical and translational research at Harvard Medical School and who discovered the molecule on cancer cells that the Pennsylvania team's engineered T cells target: "This is a huge accomplishment — huge".

A process in which, the researchers used a virus and modified it into such a way that it carried instructions for developing molecules for binding it with leukemia cells and then directing T cells to kill them; is something worth appreciation.
