A study conducted by Harvard researchers has found that processed meat has the potential of triggering Type-2 diabetes among consumers. The findings of the study have been published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition.
As per the researchers a daily consumption of two ounces of processed meat puts a person at 50% risk of developing Type -2 diabetes. Moreover, it also claims that those who consume two ounces of unprocessed meat are at 20% higher risk of getting affected by the Type-2 Diabetes.
For the study, the researchers issued questionnaires and follow-ups which were distributed to over 200,000 people for a period of 14 to 28 years. Besides considering the intakes of individuals, the researchers also considered the life style of the people.
Although the study doesn’t provide sufficient link between meat consumption and Type-2 diabetes, it does shows risks of developing it. It has been informed by the medical experts that the most common factors of Type-2 diabetes includes smoking, unhealthy diets, obesity, and insufficient levels of exercise.
Therefore, medical experts are urging people to be more focused over their life style and to exercise regularly in order to prevent diseases like Type–2 diabetes.
