Awareness Required to Ward off Accidents At Home

Awareness Required to Ward off Accidents At HomeAccording to recent reports, it has been revealed that it is not merely the elderly people who tend to fall in their homes. The statistics revealed by the authorities of the Western Bay of Plenty are of the view that people from the ages from 25-64 complain of injuries due to home falls.

This is the Safety Week and it is the duty of each person to educate themselves as well as people around them on safety tips at homes and how they can avoid accidents at their own comfort zones that might cost them a great deal in the long run.

It was a few weeks ago that Ms. Dionne Stevens, a woman from Tauranga, had a terrible accident in her own home. She dislocated her ankle so badly that it was almost irreparable. This is what has brought her to a whole new understanding of the word ‘pain’ and this is when she decided she is going to volunteer for the awareness campaign.

She revealed how she had taken a fall when she was trying to go to the washroom one night in their new home.

"I don't know how people could do it without great support. I was just totally immobile for four or five weeks, ACC helped with meals”, she said.
