Obese Mothers Increase Their Kid’s Asthma Risk, Claims Study

Obese Mothers Increase Their Kid’s Asthma Risk, Claims StudyA study carried out by London’s Imperial College researchers affirmed that all obese women, prior to their pregnancy, unintentionally increased the chances of the deadly asthma illness among their unborn babies.

However, the reports further claimed that as compared to those women who have a healthy pre-pregnancy weight, the rise in risk ranged from 20 to 30%.

In the meantime, explaining the study findings, Marjo-Riitta Jarvelin, University Professor and the study author, commented that for making the study findings more reliable, they compared overweight pregnant women with those pregnant women who had normal weight and they discovered there was a correlation between increasing maternal heaviness and increased asthma symptoms.

She added, “The children of obese women who have a history of allergy also have a much higher risk of wheezing and there is over 3.5 times higher risk of having wheezing, and for current wheezing the risk was over four times higher”.

On the other hand, previous studies, too recommended that overweight mothers kids, were exposed to augmented pro-inflammatory factors levels in the womb, which certainly amplified their asthma risk.

Meanwhile, Professor Andrew Prentice, Director of the Medical Research Council's international nutrition group at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, asserted that the study findings would surely spread awareness about the damaging obesity effects during pregnancy.
