According to reports, Waikato’s, the only dealer of the NZ Cancer Society, recently claimed that the forthcoming Daffodils Day, scheduled for next Friday, would certainly be affected by the Polar blast, as the Antarctic blast would be swabbing out all the flower stocks.
However, showing his concern about the issue, Graham Phillips, who possesses the Clandon Daffodils at Gordonton, said the cold snap would possibly not come at an inferior time and hence he would continue to choose the daffodils but the awful frosts and strangely low daytime temperatures certainly had seen a plunge in his production by 60%.
He added, "I would usually get them from the South Island but there are fields down there with the flowers fewer than three foot of snow”.
In the meantime, sharing her views, Alisha Kennedy, NZ Cancer Society Spokeswoman, asserted that even though the daffodil deliveries were small, there were enough stocks that could have been supplied to the entire pre-ordered business groups.
Meanwhile, she approved the fact and added, "But people out on the street will notice there are not as many sellers as there have been in past years".
On the other hand, Vince and Ann Henderson of Barkala Alpacas farm in Dorrigo too proclaimed that last fortnight, several daffodils were found to be popping up in their fields.
