Employees who miss lunch breaks put their long-term health at risk

Employees who miss lunch breaks put their long-term health at risk The Aviva Health of the Workplace report has revealed that people who go without a lunch break at work are possibly putting their long-term health at risk!

Underscoring the fact that the eating habits of UK workers are suffering at work, the report has revealed that either the employees in the country are not eating at all during work hours, or they are eating unhealthily, or even over-eating.

As per the report, nearly 30 percent of the employees have admitted that they are unlikely to take a lunch break at work; with 13 percent of them saying they do not eat at all in the workplace.

In addition, another 25 percent employees said that they generally skip their lunch in case they feel their workload is too much on a particular day; and, surprisingly, 19 percent of the employees - most of them stressed-out - claim that they often over-eat at work.

Despite the fact that 43 percent of the employees admitted that their bosses encourage them to take lunch breaks to look after their health, almost 15 percent workers said that their health is compromised by unhealthy eating at work --- a situation that could lead to them taking time off work as well as claiming on their life and health insurance.

Noting that employees and employers should both understand the importance of lunch breaks for overall wellbeing, Dr Doug Wright at Aviva Health said: "A cultural shift in the workplace towards proper lunch breaks will improve overall employee wellbeing as well as productivity"!
