Healthy Ladies Are Better Mothers, Says Study

According to a recent study, disadvantaged mothers with poor health conditions are more likely to have sick children as compared to healthy mothers. To conclude the findings, researchers have analyzed data from the 2007 and
2008 National Health Interview Surveys.

During the study course, researchers have analyzed two groups of disadvantaged mothers, one healthy group and one unhealthy group, and observed that disadvantaged unhealthy mothers had a higher chance of having children who were unfit. Further, these unhealthy kids were found more likely to develop asthma, learning disabilities and end up in an emergency room.

While explaining the findings, experts claimed that genetics are not the only cause of these differences and suggested that mothers who experience frequent or major health problems experience tough time monitoring their children or performing day-to-day caretaking tasks, including taking their children to regular medical checkups.

“Mothers who experience frequent or serious health problems may have a harder time monitoring their children or performing day-to-day caretaking tasks, including taking their children to regular medical checkups”, notified study Co-author, Jessica Halliday Hardie. “Maternal health problems can also place emotional and material burdens on children and heighten their stress and anxiety. Finally, to care for herself, an unhealthy mother may have to use financial resources that could otherwise benefit her children”.
