Government’s Plan to Use Private Doctors in Public Hospitals too "Costly", Says AMA

AustralianThe Australian Medical Association has shared that a South Australian government proposal to employ services of private doctors across public hospitals will be too "costly".

Under the Government's plan, specialists from the Aspen medical agency are all set to be employed in order to effectively fill shortages which are currently being faced by the Queen Elizabeth and Modbury Hospitals.

The AMA is now looking to put forward its concerns at a meeting with Health Minister John Hill, which has been scheduled for Thursday.

"It will be significantly greater than having public sector doctors because Aspen is a private company. Obviously it chooses to run at a profit so that would no doubt be reflected. We have concerns that this is a short-term fix", said AMA's Dr. Peter Ford.
