With Vodafone having rolled out operator billing for Android Apps, the users of Android handsets will no longer have to bother about tedious payment procedures --- they will now be able to pay for apps in their Vodafone bills.
Vodafone’s operator billing for Android apps – a service that has initially been made available for Android users in the UK and Germany - implies that users can make purchases without having to go through the process of entering credit card details. They can conveniently pay Android apps either in their prepay accounts or their phone bills.
Promising that further details about operator billing in other markets outside of the UK and Germany will be coming up “soon,” Vodafone has revealed that the service, for the present, will be available only to those Android users who have purchased their handsets directly through the carrier’s online and retail channels.
The announcement of operator billing by Vodafone – which is the first provider to offer such a service in the UK – underscores that the ever-increasing popularity of Android will get yet another notable boost; apparently making the Google OS unstoppable, especially after Google’s takeover of Motorola Mobility.
Noting that the new operator billing service facilitates the best possible user experience and also extends the reach of “the large number of app buying customers who are unwilling or unable to use credit cards,” Vodafone said in its recent blog post for developers: “This evolution in Android app payment greatly improves the user’s purchase experience and consequently their likelihood of completing a sale.”
