Spider Silk Protein Produces Stronger Bulletproofs

Spider Silk Protein Produces Stronger BulletproofsA spider silk spun properly produces material that will not just act as a bulletproof, but will prove to be 10 times stronger than steel. The aspect emphasizes on the protein found in the spider’s silk which makes it stronger with spinning.

Dutch researcher Jalila Essaidi along with Forensic Genomics Consortium Netherlands was working on the possibility to make the human skin bulletproof or resistant against injuries.

According to researchers, they were finding the possibility to insert the silk producing gene in spiders in the genome of humans. The researchers genetically engineered goat to produce the milk that is mixed with the protein of the spider silk. The milk was then extracted from the goat and weaved, which resulted in producing a bulletproof substance.

The researchers tested the substance by layering it with a real skin and fired bullets on it. The researchers’ new bulletproof sample was capable of bearing the bullet shot fired from a 22 calibre rifle.

As per Essaidi, "With this work I want to show that safety in its broadest sense is a relative concept, and hence the term bulletproof. The work did stop some partially slowed bullets but not the one at full speed”.
