Research in Motion (RIM)’s Tuesday unveiling of three new BlackBerry Curve handsets – namely, the Curve 9350, Curve 9360, and Curve 9370 – marked the biggest smartphone rollout in the history of the Waterloo, Ontario-based technology firm.
According to the information shared by RIM, the trio of new BlackBerry Curve smartphones will go on sale in Canada later this month; with the international debut of the handsets scheduled for September.
While the Curve 9350 has been designed to run on CDMA networks; the 9360 model will run on GSM networks, where as the 9370 will support both CDMA and GSM network technologies.
In a statement pertaining to the new Curve handsets, Mike Lazaridis – RIM’s co-chief executive and president – said that these smartphones will “offer a significant performance upgrade”, as they will come pre-loaded with RIM’s new BlackBerry 7 OS, featuring an updated Web browser.
Despite the fact that RIM is yet to specify the number of carriers the new Curve handsets will be launching with, it can be speculated that, logically, the company will like to maximize the footprint of the new Curve and apparently roll these handsets out to most of its global carrier partners.
With the Curve being typically the least expensive BlackBerry and a highly popular one, Lazaridis said: “These new models will build on the incredible success of the BlackBerry Curve line and further expand the largest global launch of BlackBerry smartphones in our history.”
