Vodafone has announced that it would extend a deal with Google's Android system to bring its in-bill app payment system to all of its markets.
Last week, Vodafone revealed plans to allow Android users in the UK and Germany to pay apps online and make payments in their monthly bills.
Speaking on the topic, Vodafone's commercial development director Tobin Ireland said, "We've done a deal that covers the global footprint."
The in-bill app system allows users to pay for apps, for everything ranging from music, restaurants & games to the weather & news, via monthly bills. The system doesn’t require users to enter credit card details with Google.
Vodafone, the world's leading mobile phone operator, also confirmed that customers who pay for apps via their mobile phone bills download twice as many as those who pay for apps through credit cards.
After losing the battle for online app stores to Google and Apple, mobile phone operators are making efforts to provide a boost to sales from additional services. The worldwide market for games, entertainment & workplace tools for mobile devices is expected to balloon from $14.3 billion in 2010 to $40 billion by 2014.
