Samsung releases Bada OS 2.0 SDK

Samsung releases Bada OS 2.0 SDKSouth Korean handset maker Samsung has finally released the Software Development Kit (SDK) for the next version of its own mobile platform- Bada.

Bada 2.0, the second iteration of the Samsung's own operating system, brings a new user interface (UI), enhanced multitasking, support for HTML5, OpenAL, Near Field Communication technology (NFC), speech-to-text and text- to-speech, in-app ads, Wi-Fi Direct and push notifications.

The 368kb file is available to download at the South Korean firm's website to anyone willing to register.

The release of the new SDK for Bada is expected to help the little-known operating system in its efforts to snatch some share from rival operating systems such as Apple's iOS and Google's Android, which is also found in most of Samsung's high-end smartphones.

Samsung has plans to install the new software in its three upcoming new Wave smartphones, and expects that the upcoming handsets running Bada 2.0 will imitate the success of their original siblings.

Just like Apple's iOS, Bada is a completely closed platform as Samsung retains tight control over the platform and application distribution.
